On This Date in Minnesota History: May 10

May 10, 2012 – Minnesota congresswoman Michele Bachmann announced she sent a letter to the Swiss Consulate requesting a withdrawal of her dual Swiss citizenship she claims she received by Swiss law when she married her husband Marcus in 1978.1 “At the time of her marriage, automatic citizenship was granted to those who married Swiss citizens [(Marcus Bachmann is a dual American and Swiss citizen because he is the son of Swiss immigrants).] However, her husband did not register their marriage with Swiss authorities until this year - meaning that the Swiss government was not aware of it until recently.” 2
