On This Date in Minnesota History: March 23

March 23, 1965 – Audrey Ann Samuelson was found innocent of the charge of murdering her husband, Bayport dentist Dr. Philip Samuelson, by a Washington County jury. Mrs. Samuelson said she had shot her husband in self-defense as he came at her in a rage on Nov. 14, 1964. She and her three children had testified that her husband had been physically abusing them for many years. The State had claimed Mrs. Samuelson had deliberately shot her husband because she thought he was leaving her for another woman.
