On This Date in Minnesota History: September 29

September 29, 2003 – Two people were shot in the Hennepin County Government Center by a St. Paul woman who was there for a court hearing on restraining orders she'd filed against her shooting victims over her late father’s estate. Susan Berkovitz shot her cousin, Shelley Joseph-Kordell, and Kordell's attorney, Richard Hendrickson, with a .38-caliber Smith and Wesson revolver she'd bought the past summer at a gun show.

According to witnesses, Berkovitz walked up to Hendrickson in the lobby and shot him in the neck at close range. She then followed Kordell into the ladies' restroom and shot her.  “Both Kordell and Hendrickson identified Berkovitz as their attacker. Kordell died about two hours after the shooting.”
