On This Date in Minnesota History: February 23

February 23, 1979 – The Carlton Celebrity Room in Bloomington opened with Mel Tillis as the nightclub’s opening act. The Celebrity Room, “a wedge-shaped auditorium,” could seat “more than 2,200 people: 1,270 seated on a terrace level for dinner service and an additional 952 in the balcony for the performance only.”
