On This Date in Minnesota History: June 14

June 14, 1910 – A whitefish weighing 36-1/2 pounds was caught off the northeast end of Isle Royale, Lake Superior, by Capt. John Maloney.

The fish was exhibited at the Booth Fisheries Company’s dock in Duluth today by C. W. Turner, manager of the company.

Six pounds makes a good sized whitefish and this great fish must have been a greybeard among his peers.

Imagine the size of one 36.5 lbs.
