On This Date in Minnesota History: September 3

September 3, 2000 – Trina “Langenbrunner’s stabbed body was discovered off a rural road in southern St. Louis County, Minn.” Authorities said the 33-year-old mother of three “was hitchhiking to Grand Rapids to see her estranged husband the night of her death. Sex or robbery was believed to be the killer’s initial motivation.”

On June 15, 2012, a convicted sex offender from Cloquet,
Joseph John Couture, was arrested for her 12-year-old murder, which was “considered one of the most high-profile cold cases in the Northland” according to the St. Louis County Sheriff’s office.
