On This Date in Minnesota History: September 26

September 26, 1910 – Thomas Plototh, aged 27 and single, was instantly killed at the Dale-Uno Mine near Hibbing this morning at 9, when he was struck on the head by a big dipper of the steam shovel on which he was working. His skull was crushed. Plototh came to this country from Romania about a year and a half ago.

The Duluth Herald; “Instantly Killed. Steam Shovel Man at Hibbing Is Struck By Big Dipper.”; Sept. 27, 1910; p. 4.
