On This Date in Minnesota History: January 1

January 1, 1937 – “At a party at the Hormel Mansion in Minnesota, a guest won $100 for naming a new canned meat-Spam. SPAM was originally called Hormel Spiced Ham in 1936 without much success.”

Today, Spam comes in a variety of different flavors
