May 10, 2012 – Minnesota congresswoman Michele Bachmann announced she sent a letter to the Swiss Consulate requesting a withdrawal of her dual Swiss citizenship she claims she received by Swiss law when she married her husband Marcus in 1978.1 “At the time of her marriage, automatic citizenship was granted to those who married Swiss citizens [(Marcus Bachmann is a dual American and Swiss citizen because he is the son of Swiss immigrants).] However, her husband did not register their marriage with Swiss authorities until this year - meaning that the Swiss government was not aware of it until recently.” 2

May 9, 1925 – “Old Home Creameries [now Old Home Foods] was incorporated in the state of Minnesota on [this date]. On Mr. Davies’ first day in business, he sold 11 pounds of his new cottage cheese. On the second day, he sold 60 pounds and on the third day, 90 pounds. By 1930, the company had 30 employees and 14 trucks and was producing over a million pounds annually to keep up with the demand.”

May 7, 1857 – On this date, “the steamer Frank Steele landed with about 60 to 70 families of settlers from Cincinnati at a place a quarter of a mile directly south-east from this point”: 110 – 20th South; New Ulm, Minn.

This was the Steele’s first voyage to Minnesota. Its passengers “were members of the Cincinnati Turnverin who planned to join the new German colony at New Ulm.”1

May 6, 1965 — “Two F4 tornadoes hit Fridley [Minn.], and 13 people die as six tornadoes touch down in the Twin Cities.”1 This was also “the first time in Minnesota state history where civil defense sirens were used for severe weather purposes.”2
