May 7, 1857 – On this date, “the
steamer Frank Steele landed with
about 60 to 70 families of settlers from Cincinnati at a place a quarter of a
mile directly south-east from this point”: 110 – 20th South; New
Ulm, Minn.

This was the Steele’s first voyage to
Minnesota. Its
passengers “were members of the Cincinnati Turnverin who planned to join the
new German colony at New Ulm.”1
