On This Date in Minnesota History: December 16

December 16, 1904 – Itasca County comes to the front with a record breaking crop of wolf bounties. County Auditor E. J. Farrell today called at the state auditor’s office and presented certificates showing that his county had paid bounties of $7.50 for female wolves and $2.50 for male wolves, and that the state’s share of the bounty payment on the total would be $1,391.50. The payment will cover more than a year’s crop. The state pays $7.50 for female wolves and $2.50 for the scalps of male wolves.
