23, 1979 – “Former Minnesota Twins manager and current New York
Yankee manager Billy Martin [was] involved in a barroom altercation [on this
date] in a Minnesota hotel with Joseph Cooper, a Minnesota marshmallow
salesman. Cooper required 15 stitches to close a gash in his lip. The fight
leads to Martin getting fired by the Yankees one more time.”
