On this Date in Minnesota History: August 10

August 10, 1887 – The first issue of the “Prison Mirror,” the newspaper of the Minnesota State Prison in Stillwater, was published on this date. Bank robber Cole Younger was associate editor.¹

It was the first publication in America produced solely by inmates from inside a prison, and at 127 years and counting it is the oldest continuously published prison journal in America.²
