On this Date in Minnesota History: August 3

August 3, 1971 – After being turned down for a same-sex marriage license by Hennepin County, the District Court, the Minnesota Supreme Court and the U.S. Supreme Court, Jack Baker and James Michael McConnell “established a legal relationship through adult adoption. This was possibly the first adult adoption by one member of a same-sex couple of the other.”
