On ThIs Date in Minnesota History: March 20

March 20, 1858 – Kandiyohi County was created on this date from Davis (eliminated Feb. 20, 1862), Meeker, Pierce (eliminated Feb. 20, 1862), Stearns and Renville Counties.1

The name comes from the Dakota name for one of its lakes, meaning “where the buffalo fish come.”2
