On This Date in Minnesota History: June 29

June 29, 1861 – American surgeon William James Mayo was born on this date in Le Sueur, Minn. “He was one of the Mayo brothers, pioneers of the concept of the group clinic, bringing together specialists from a number of medical fields to better perform diagnoses and treatment. The Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., became an internationally known medical center.”
