On This Date in Minnesota History: July 9

July 9, 1912 – Lightning struck the Cloquet Lumber Company’s drying shed around 2 o’clock this morning at Cloquet, Minn., setting fire to it and destroying everything. The estimated loss is about $40,000. The shed was used for storing the better grades of dry lumber.
