On This Date in Minnesota History: October 9

October 9, 1949 - A 13 ft. bronze figure depicting who many consider to be the first European to reach North America back in 1000 AD., was dedicated near the Minnesota State Capitol in St. Paul on this date, Leif Erikson Day.
