September 11, 2000 – A
documentary, “City Confidential - Ruthton: Tragedy in the Heartland,” was first
shown on this date on USA cable TV. The story reenacted the 1983 shooting of “two
bankers, Toby Thulin and Rudy Bluthe, [who] were murdered on a secluded
Minnesota farm. Their deaths, and the lives of their troubled killers, Jim and
Steve Jenkins, shocked the small town of Ruthton [Minn.] and became a disputed
national symbol for the farm crisis of the early 1980's.”1
