On This Date in Minnesota History: April 27

April 27, 1904 – The state railroad and warehouse commission today ordered the Northern Pacific to sell passenger tickets to Aitkin via Carlton at the same rate as via Staples or Brainerd. The order will become effective immediately.

About three months ago the Commercial Club of Aitkin petitioned the commission to compel the Northern Pacific to grant it the same rate via Carlton as by way of Staples. The members of the club who appeared before the commission said that under the present schedule the train service was inadequate.

It was pointed out that if one wished to leave the Twin Cities for Aitkin at night, he was obliged to wait at Staples from midnight until 3 a .m. to make connections.

The new arrangement will give the people of Aitkin a service that will allow them to leave St. Paul at 2 p. m. and arrive at their home at 10 p. m. the same evening.
