On This Date in Minnesota History: June 20

June 20, 1896 - Sarah Bernhardt, probably the most famous actress of the 19th century, signed the guest register at the Coney Island Hotel in Waconia, Minn., on this date. A popular summer resort on an island in Lake Waconia, Coney Island of the West was founded in 1885, and added to the National Register of Historic Places on Aug. 11, 1976.
