On This Date in Minnesota History: October 29

October 29, 2014 – The 2014 Capitol Christmas Tree, an 88-foot white spruce, was cut down in Minnesota’s Chippewa National Forest today. “Approximately 500 attendees, including 170 local school children, gathered to witness the once in a generation event.”

“The U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree will make more than 30 stops as it travels through local communities, Minnesota and the Midwest on its way to Washington, D.C. The tree lighting ceremony will be held on Dec. 2.”
