On This Date in Minnesota History: September 1

September 1, 1894 - Thomas P. "Boston" Corbett, the Union Army soldier who shot and killed Abraham Lincoln's assassin, John Wilkes Booth, is believed to have perished in the Great Hinckley Fire on this date. While there is no absolute proof, his name (Thomas Corbett) does appear on the list of dead and missing.
