On This Date in Minnesota History: May 17

May 17, 1903 – “The receipts at the Blue Earth postoffice for the year ending March 31, 1903, were $6,368.70, an increase of $665.55 over last year. Under the provisions of the Nelson bill extending free [mail] delivery services to cities having gross annual postoffice receipts of $5,000 or more, Blue Earth will be entitled to a city delivery service. A directory is now being compiled, businesses and residences are being numbered, and street name signs are being placed in position.”
