On this date in Minnesota History: June 12

June 12, 1899 – Six inches of rain is the record for 24 hours. It was the worst storm ever known in this section, and washed out stone culverts, newly-graded streets and retaining walls in [Mankato, Minn.]. Warren creek rose six feet, and carried away part of Peter Sanders' livery barn with horses and vehicles. Lightning damaged the gas plant building to the extent of $4,000.”
