August 20, 1914 – A monument to Chief
Mou-zoo-mau-nee, leader of the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe, was dedicated on this
date at Fort Ridgely Cemetery in Nicollet County near Fairfax, Minn. The chief helped
protect settlers at Fort Ripley during the Sioux uprising of 1862.
