March 6, 1971 – “Northern States Power Company’s (NSP) nuclear power plant at Monticello began generating electricity at 2:30 a.m. [on this date] – five years after NSP publicly announced that it would apply for an Atomic Energy Commission permit to build the $100 million plant.”
