On This Date in Minnesota History: April 20

April 20, 1999 – Twelve-year-old Cally Jo Larson was murdered by an intruder on this date after getting home from school in Waseca, Minn. Dropped off by her school bus at around 2:55 p.m., Cally Jo was discovered hanging by an electrical cord from a stairway banister by her 17-year-old sister around 4 p.m. Cally Jo had been stabbed in the chest, and received blunt force trauma on her face and arm. She was also brutally sexually assaulted.

Her murderer was arrested 9 months later on an unrelated burglary charge. Items taken from the Larson home were found in Lorenzo Sanchez’s home, including a CD case that had Cally Jo’s fingerprints on it.
