On This Date in Minnesota History: June 9

June 9, 1967 - Henry John Deutschendorf, Jr., better known as singer John Denver, married Ann Marie Martell in the Christ Chapel at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minn., on this date. Annie was the subject of his hit Annie's Song, which he composed in only ten minutes while on a ski lift in 1974. The couple lived in Edina, Minn., from 1968 to 1971.
