On This Date in Minnesota History: June 15

June 15, 1899 – General R. A. Alger, Secretary of War, arrived in Duluth with his party this morning. They immediately went out for a trip on the bay, visiting the sawmill of Alger, Smith & Co. In the afternoon they left on the Duluth and Iron Range road for Knife River, where General Alger visited his extensive pine timber holdings and inspected the logging road owned by his company. In two days there will be a large reception in Duluth with a parade. Ten companies of militia, including seven from outside of Duluth, and all the local civil bodies, will form a parade.
